Sometimes we have questions…

The core of what we do in anaesthesia is about looking after patients. That also comes with a desire to do it better every single day. For a clinician, every day at work poses new challenges and new questions. So for us, exploring questions is a vital part of finding ways to do things better.

Which brings us to our research. Research is how we drive things forward and luckily we have clinicians embracing the challenges that come with research to explore questions that matter.

But perhaps it’s easy to let a key person explain what we’re all about. Let’s hand it over to Associate Professor Justin Skowno…

We are so grateful that the more he looks after patients, the more he is keen to undertake the research that helps us get better every day.

For us, research is not an ‘either/or’ proposition. It is essential to getting better at what we do when we look after patients.

And Justin didn’t even cover the full range of activities that are under way. We have projects happening that look at analgesia, regional anaesthesia, pharmacology, brain activity under anaesthesia, the intersection of design and procedural care, airway management … the list keeps growing.

At the heart of all of it are some of the big themes of what we do - keeping all of our focus on what we can do for patients, and working with inspiring teams.

But sometimes that is not just about sleep.
